What is accreditation and why is it important?

Accreditation is the method that clients use to determine the quality and reliability of a laboratory. There are two types of accreditations for DNA testing laboratories: ISO17025 Accreditation and AABB Accreditation. Small or new labs are often not accredited and as a result, their testing quality is not regulated. Genetrack is fully accredited for legal casework, and is one of only a few DNA laboratories in the world to have achieved ISO17025 and AABB accreditation, ensuring the highest level of recognition and quality.

ISO 17025 Accreditation: The world most prestigious laboratory accreditation program

ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is the global leader in developing technical standards for industrial, commercial, and government fields. ISO 17025, one of the most prestigious certifications in the DNA testing industry, is awarded to laboratories which exemplify technical competence in all calibration and testing activities.

Demonstrating the laboratory’s commitment to providing premium DNA testing services, Genetrack is pleased to announce that it has formally received accreditation under ISO Standard 17025, placing Genetrack as one of the first few full-service private DNA paternity testing laboratories in the world to receive this accreditation. Only a small number of private and government DNA laboratories in the world have reached ISO Standard 17025 for DNA testing, an international standard that assess the technical competency of calibration laboratories and ensures accurate data generation, controlled and reproducible testing and testing procedures, and properly qualified trained laboratory personnel. Genetrack’s success in meeting the stringent standards of ISO 17025 indicates that clients will receive the highest level of DNA testing services from a laboratory which is internationally recognized to excel in all aspects of testing quality. Genetrack’s accreditation is the product of an intense three year effort by the laboratory to establish a world class quality system which meets or exceeds the requirements of ISO 17025.

AABB Accreditation: World recognition

Genetrack is also officially accredited by the AABB and is awarded the status of an AABB Accredited DNA testing facility.

Accreditation follows an intensive on-site assessment by specially trained AABB assessors.

AABB Accreditation is the designation of choice for DNA testing laboratories because it demonstrates an organization’s commitment to advanced learning, continuous improvement and innovation. AABB-accredited organizations are recognized by their peers as leaders in their field and as pivotal voices in the dialogue through which consensus-based, voluntary standards are developed and implemented.

CAP: Setting the standards for quality control

CAP is the worldwide leader in providing quality improvement programs to pathologists and laboratory professionals. Genetrack participated in the Proficiency Program of the CAP in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and is currently enrolled in the Proficiency Program of the CAP for 2008, which includes rigorous laboratory proficiency testing three times each year.

Simple Swab Collection

Buccal swab collection is the new standard for the collection of samples for DNA testing. Buccal swab collection is quick simple and painless. The sample is collected by rubbing swabs gently inside the mouth against the cheek for 10 seconds. It’s as easy as brushing your teeth! Buccal swab collection can be performed on individuals of all ages, even newborns.

Capillary Laser Sequencing

Genetrack is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art instrumentation, resulting in the full automation of every step of the processing and analysis to ensure precision and quality assurance. With a sophisticated bar coding system, each specimen is automatically bar coded for absolute privacy and security. DNA analysis involves the latest capillary laser sequencers which automate every step of DNA detection and characterization. With laser precision, DNA testing is far more accurate and powerful than the techniques used by smaller labs which involve manual analysis.

Sterile Techniques

Genetrack exclusively uses plugged sterile tips for every step of DNA analysis to ensure 100% sterility and eliminates the risk of sample contamination. With multiple clean hoods and specimen rooms, every effort has been put into protecting the integrity of your sample during the testing process.
