Heraldry Help
Kevin Patrick Kiefer wrote on Jun 27 2006, 07:51 pm
If I could upload my copies of family coat of arms in bulk it would make it lot easier to share them. Otherwise it would be very time consuming to load them one by one. If anyone in the community needs help with heraldry, please feel free to contact me with surnames and known origins. I'll do what I can to help you when time permits. Try typing the word "Heraldry" in a Google search in the meantime. I strongly believe in the value of using both genealogical research and heraldry together to achieve the goal of tracing our ancestry. Unfortunately, there are alot of internet sites that base their heraldry research on a "for-profiit basis". While I disagree with this, because COA's are hundreds of years old and well within public domain, most people feel that they have to pay them to get the COA quickly, not even realizing that it may not be an accurate COA for their family. On the other hand, there are many free sites. It is also very important to understand heraldry, at least a little bit. There may be several coat of arms for a specific surname, therefore origin is very important. It is passed through the male line only. In other words, a female may display her maiden name COA but they do not normally pass to the children unless offically "quartered" by proper authority. I have changed my COA's representing my family lines as new information comes to light. It is a constant evolving process. Good Luck! Kevin
