Église Ste. Jeanne -- Belfry

Description:Ste. Joan's church in Troyes is a small, not so famous structure in a town with an impressive history and cathedral; but it has a belfry with an expansive view. Indeed, Troyes was a town famous for its bells, until many were melted down during the French Revolution. But what of Jeanne d'Arc -- the French dauphin (presumed heir to the throne), afterwards Charles VII, and Sainte Joan of Arc recovered the town of Troyes on July 10, 1429 from the English, just a week before he was coronated at nearby Reims, where he of course drank the region's popular wine -- champagne. Henry V of England was betrothed to Catherine, daughter of Charles VI and by that match was to become King of France instead of the dauphin. Joan through martyrdom unified the French against the trespassers. The history of the Church in Troyes is long and complex: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bishopric_of_Troyes ------- Many, many more Ste. Jeanne items at: http://www.stejeannedarc.net/dossiers/jeanne_a_rouen.php -- especially interesting is the proposed statue (like Lady Liberty) that was never built at Rouen.
