Grandma on the Sherburne Swinging Bridge
In this photo:
Description:Fleming County, Kentucky is known as the Covered Bridge Capitol of the World. Many of those bridges are now gone, but some remain--moreso than anywhere else. Well, my grandparents were both bornin Fleming County. Though the Sherburne Swinging Bridge was not a covered bridge, it was still my late grandmother's favorite. I can't begin to tell you how many times Grandma Young (Flora Elliott Simth YOUNG) talked about that swinging bridge in Sherburne, KY. She loved that bridge, and even though the clarity of this circa 1920 picture is less than desirable, I can still make out Grandma's form on the far left. I don't know who the other people are, though, but it's a good guess that they are her aunts or friends.

I guess, Tildie, that's why it made such an impresion on her. Being a wooden structure, I have no doubt that it's nolonger there. I sure would, however, have loved the chance to traverse it!
