Detailed Description

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are infections that are passed from one person to another usually through sexual contact.

Chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichomoniasis are three very common STDs.  Many people who have these STDs may not have any symptoms, so they dont know they have them and can spread them to others. If left untreated, these STDs can cause serious health problems.

However, the good news is that chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichomoniasis can be tested for easily and can be treated effectively. Take charge of your health by getting tested today.

What is the process of the STD Test?

Urine is self-collected in the privacy of your own home. 20–30 mL of first-void urine is collected into the provided collection cup. 2 mL of this urine is then transferred to the provided urine specimen container. A small blood sample is also collected from a finger prick in the privacy of your own home. These samples are mailed to our lab using the prepaid envelope inside the kit.

Upon arrival at our lab, the urine sample is analyzed using a fully-automated molecular testing technique called a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT). These assays detect the presence of nucleic acid from chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichomoniasis in the urine sample.

The blood sample is analyzed by fully automated chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassays (CMIAs) to detect the HIV p24 antigen, HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibodies, and syphilis antibodies.

Test results are available through our online portal as soon as testing is complete.

What's Tested?

Chlamydia

Chlamydia is a very common STD in the United States, with about four million cases each year. It is caused by a bacteria called Chlamydia trachomatis, which can infect the genital tract of both men and women. If left untreated, chlamydia can lead to permanent damage to a woman’s reproductive systems. Chlamydia is usually spread through sexual contact, so its important to practice safe sex and use protection, such as condoms. Symptoms of chlamydia can range from mild to severe, but many people dont experience any symptoms at all. Thats why its so important to get tested and treated if you think you may have been exposed.

Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea is a STD caused by the bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It can infect both men and women and is especially common in young people ages 15-24 years. Every year in the United States, about 700,000 people get infected with gonorrhea. People who have gonorrhea may not have any symptoms, but if they do, they may have abnormal discharge from the vagina or penis and pain when they pee. If gonorrhea is not treated with antibiotics, it can cause serious problems. Even if a person doesn’t have any symptoms, they can still spread the infection to someone else.

Trichomoniasis

Trichomoniasis is a common and treatable STD caused by a tiny parasite that is usually spread through sexual contact. It‘s estimated that two million people in the United States were infected in 2018, with women being more likely to be infected than men. Most people who have trichomoniasis don‘t have any symptoms. But when symptoms do occur, they can range from mild irritation to severe inflammation. Trichomoniasis can also increase the risk of getting or spreading other STDs, like HIV. Fortunately, trichomoniasis is a curable STD and can be treated with medications.
